Student and Family Support Office

In DSB1, we are deeply committed to meaningful engagement and transparent communication with our families. Regular collaboration with your child’s teacher(s) and school administrators is a crucial element in promoting student achievement and well-being.

The Student and Family Support Office is here to help families navigate complex situations, ensure processes are applied consistently, and foster a welcoming partnership throughout your child's educational journey.

Where to Start: Our Framework for Resolving Concerns

We believe that problem-solving regarding concerns or challenges should always start closest to the issue. This step-by-step approach builds strong relationships, fosters trust, and strengthens collaboration between home and school.

If you have a concern, please follow our 4-Step Framework:

Step 1: Work with the Student's Teacher(s) – Most classroom-specific concerns regarding learning, curriculum, or day-to-day interactions are best resolved through a direct conversation with your child's teacher.
Step 2: Work with the Principal or Vice-Principal – If the issue remains unresolved, contact your school administration team to discuss a school-wide or escalated resolution.
Step 3: Work with the Superintendent of Education – If school administration cannot resolve the matter, reach out to your school's regional Superintendent.
Step 4: Contact the Student and Family Support Office – If you have completed Steps 1 through 3 and require further navigation assistance with a complex situation, our office is ready to assist you.

Please Note: If a family has not yet attempted to resolve the matter directly with their school or regional Superintendent, the Support Office may refer you back to the appropriate person prior to opening an official file. If a concern remains unresolved after working with our office, families may ultimately request to work with the Director of Education.
