Cooperative Education
Cooperative Education provides students with valuable work experience while earning secondary school credits towards their diploma. Students have the opportunity to explore a career pathway or a specific career of interest.
The program includes both a classroom component and a work or community placement. Students learn about workplace safety, ethics, and expectations, and develop the skills needed to succeed.
Career and life planning is a key focus, helping students connect school learning with real-world experience.

Eligibility
- Students must be at least 14 years of age
- Strong commitment to exploring a career pathway
- Opportunity to participate in an Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program
How Students Earn Credits
- Up to two compulsory credits toward the OSSD
- Unlimited optional credits available
- SHSM students must complete at least two Co-op credits
Cooperative Education Placements
- Guidance counsellors help determine placements
- Teachers secure safe and appropriate work placements
- Regular monitoring and support during placements
- Assessment includes employer feedback and coursework
