SCHOOL COUNCILS

1.0             Rationale

District School Board Ontario North East (DSB1) recognizes that involving families directly in the education of their children improves learning and strengthens the partnership between families and schools.

DSB1 also recognizes the value of collaborative engagement between home, school, and the community.

DSB1 recognizes the value of having collective associations of parents, teachers, support staff, students and community representatives working together in an advisory capacity to promote the well-being and effectiveness of the entire school community and the Board. 

2.0             Definitions

Council: School Council

Parent: a parent or guardian of a student

3.0             Policy

DSB1 is committed to collaborating with families and communities by striving to ensure that all schools in its jurisdiction maintain a School Council as outlined by the Education Act and its regulations. DSB1 will support School Councils in focussing on actions that enhance student learning, student success and student well-being for all.
