1.0 Rationale
District School Board Ontario North East (DSB1) is committed to fostering a sense of belonging and respect for our shared national and provincial heritage. The display of the National Flag of Canada and the Provincial Flag of Ontario at all Board sites serves as a visible reflection of these values and our compliance with provincial regulations. Furthermore, the Board utilizes the flying of flags at half-mast as a meaningful gesture of collective empathy and respect for our students, staff, and the diverse communities we serve during times of loss.
2.0 Definitions

Half-mast: Term used to describe a flag flying below the top of a flagpole to indicate mourning.
3.0 Policy

This policy reinforces the Board’s commitment to Safe Schools, Equity and Inclusive Education, and the Ontario Human Rights Code.
