NLPS Unveils Seven Grandfather Teachings Artwork by DSB1 Alumna Aiesha Hindle
The halls of New Liskeard Public School (NLPS) are now home to powerful representations of Indigenous wisdom, thanks to a meaningful collaboration with District School Board Ontario North East (DSB1) graduate and former Indigenous Student Trustee, Aiesha Hindle.
During her time as a student at Kirkland Lake District Composite School (KLDCS), Aiesha created a stunning series of artworks representing the Seven Grandfather Teachings. Anchoring its character education in these core principles, NLPS reached out to Aiesha to purchase the rights to display her pieces across both the east and west wings of the school, ensuring the teachings serve as a daily guide for students and staff alike.
The artwork was officially celebrated during a special unveiling ceremony at the school, attended by Aiesha alongside key community members and board representatives.
“Today was so humbling and rewarding—not only as an alumna of the school board and past Student Trustee, but as an artist,” shared Aiesha. “I appreciate the school's efforts to cultivate such a positive environment and community. That dedication was clearly reflected in the young student speakers as they portrayed the values of Courage and Wisdom.”
NLPS extends heartfelt gratitude to Aiesha for sharing her incredible talent and vision with the school community. Special thanks also go to James Taylor for his vital role as liaison in bringing this collaboration together, and to Ink It Design for bringing the designs to life on the school’s walls.
