Get Involved in Your Child's Education

Families can get involved in their child’s education in many ways, including through School Councils and the school board Parent Involvement Committee (PIC).

School Councils

The purpose of a School Council is to improve student achievement and increase accountability of the education system to families. School Councils may advise the Principal on issues such as:
  • School Improvement Plans and EQAO
  • Facility concerns
  • Opportunities for family volunteers in the schools
  • School events and fundraising

To get involved in a School Council, please contact your child's school.

Parent Involvement Committee

The Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) is an important board-level advisory body that operates as a direct link between parents and a board’s director of education and Trustees.

PIC builds parent engagement by:
  • Providing advice to their school board on parent engagement and ways to communicate with families.
  • Developing strategies and initiatives the board could use to effectively engage parents in improving student achievement and well-being.
  • Sharing information with and supporting the work of all the school councils in the school board.
