Treaties Recognition Week

A treaty is an agreement or promise made between Indigenous Peoples and the Government. Treaties form the basis of the relationship between Nations by outlining the rights and responsibilities of each group.

Treaties may include how resources will be shared, what happens to the land, the right to fish, hunt, and harvest, and promises of education.

Treaties are important to maintaining peaceful relationships and moving towards reconciliation.
