World Food Day 2023

With 95% of our food beginning with soil and water, this day recognizes the importance of managing this precious resource wisely as billions of individuals around the world live in water-stressed environments.

Today, we highlight the work of the appointed Chief Water Commissioner for the Anishinabek Nation, Autumn Peltier, a world-renowned water-rights advocate and a leading global youth environmental activist. An Anishinaabe-Kwe and citizen of the Wiikwemkong Unceded Territory, Manitoulin Island, a First Nation of the Anishinabek Nation member, Autumn Peltier, since the age of seven, has been focused on bringing to the forefront the attention and need for clean water across First Nations.

"I advocate for water because we all came from water and water is literally the only reason we are here today and living on this earth." - Autumn Peltier
