District School Board Ontario North East (DSB1) students from across the district attended Skills Ontario Skills Competitions and Conferences from May 1 - May 3, 2023. The event occurred at the Toronto Congress Centre, Toronto, Ontario, where students from all around the province gathered to compete. DSB1 was well represented, with 32 students competing in Skills competitions. Along with the competitors, students from our secondary schools attended Skills Ontario Conferences for Young Women and students who identify as Indigenous. There were approximately 45 students attending the student conferences.

- Kirkland Lake District Composite School placed 2nd in Robotics
- Kirkland Lake District Composite School placed 3rd in Photography
- Kirkland Lake District Composite School placed 3rd in TV and Video Production
- Timiskaming District Secondary School placed 3rd in Welding
