"The reason why it’s important to acknowledge the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is to honour the survivors of the residential schools, to the mothers and fathers who never got to see their children again, and for those who lost their wild and free inner child that day, and those who are still trying to regain that inner child that they lost along the way.

I also believe that the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is about the remembrance of the brave souls who came out, and those who didn’t.

But it’s also about self love and acceptance of yourself and others, because no matter how hard they beat you down, try to change you, to try and tell you what you believe in is wrong.

You pick yourself up, dust yourself off, keep your head held up high and your heart full.

Because you are a human being with a beating heart, full of love to give to people and the world around you.
Don’t let them rip that out of you, because you are perfect the way you are.  No matter your skin."
