Exploring our Shared History with the KAIROS Blanket Exercise

February 08, 2019

All grade 7 and 8 students at Cochrane Public School recently participated in the KAIROS Blanket Exercise, facilitated by Lisa Innes, VP of Indigenous Education and Desmond O'Connor, Indigenous Student Advisor.

The activity is an experiential, hands on learning opportunity to explore our shared history where students develop the perspective as Indigenous people before, during, and after the arrival of European settlers.  Students experienced losing their land (the blankets) through governments policies, the loss of children through the residential school policy, and were able to share their thoughts about this process and how it has affected relationships today.
