TDSS Students Visit Water Treatment Facility

October 25, 2017

After studying the ins and outs of water treatment in the classroom, students at Timiskaming District Secondary School had a chance to visit their local facilities. Managers at OCWA (Ontario Clean Water Agency) coordinated a variety of site visits that brought to light how local water is treated before and after arriving at its user destination.

Students were able to continue their waste management unit by observing the operation of JPL Storage's wing of the OES (Ontario Electronic Stewardship) program, which uses consumer environmental handling fees to pay for e-waste disposal.  E-waste has turned out to be the fastest growing category of waste and it was interesting to see the opportunities it can present for profitable and environmentally responsible recycling.
