They’re working together with a common purpose — the enhancement of education in the North.
On October 2nd, Directors of Education, Board Chairs, and Administration from District School Board Ontario North East, the Northeastern Catholic District School Board, Conseil scolaire catholique de district des Grandes Rivieres, and Conseil scolaire public du Nord Est de l’Ontario gathered in Timmins to discuss the province’s plan to strengthen rural and Northern education.
Announced on June 28th by Minister of Education Mitzie Hunter, the new plan aims to support rural and Northern students and communities through a series of steps which include:
Increased funding for co-operation between school boards includingplanning and building joint-use schools.
Strengthening education for students in rural and Northerncommunities to create jobs, grow the economy and help people intheir everyday lives.
All Boards welcome the opportunity to engage in discussion about how to best meet the needs of students in the North.
