On September 20th, the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) publicly released the school and school-board results from the 2016/2017 school year for:
– Primary and Junior Division assessments of Reading, Writing and Mathematics
– Grade 9 Math assessment
– Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT)
EQAO reports provide school communities with information that contributes to understanding each student's achievement in relation to the provincial standard. District School Board Ontario North East's (DSB ONE's) results are outlined below.
Elementary Primary and Junior Division Reading, Writing and Mathematics Results – Grades 3 and 6 Respectively
The number of DSB ONE's Grade 3 students achieving Levels 3 & 4 was 54% in Reading; 51% in Writing; and 45% in Mathematics. This compares to Provincial results which showed students across Ontario achieving 74% in Reading; 73% in Writing; and 62% in Math.
The number of DSB ONE's Grade 6 students achieving Levels 3 & 4 was 72% in Reading; 63% in Writing; and 31% in Mathematics. This compares to Provincial results which showed students across Ontario achieving 81% in Reading; 79% in Writing; and 50% in Math.
Grade 9 EQAO Math Assessment Results
In academic level math, 61% of students are at or above the provincial standard (same as last year). The Provincial result remained at 83% from the previous year. While the Province saw a 1% decrease in applied level math from 45% to 44% in 2016, DSB ONE saw a 1% increase from 35% to 36%.
The percentage of Grade 10 DSB ONE students who were successful on the OSSLT was 67%, which was remained consistent from last year. Provincially, the percentage of Grade 10 students who were successful on the OSSLT remained consistent at 81%.
