On November 22nd, 2018, Ecole secondaire Cochrane High School (ESCHS) hosted a Mental Health Carousel to make students aware of the services/support systems that are available in the community.
The school invited local organizations who offer mental health prevention and treatment services to youth 19 years and under. The community partners set up booths with information on their services for students.
Students had the opportunity to walk through and speak with representatives from different organizations on-site. Students and the community partners gathered for a lunch together after the carousel.
This event was a great opportunity to inform students about available local services, as well as connect with service providers directly. This contact can help remove barriers to access to services for youth. The mental health carousel was part of District School Board Ontario North East (DSB1)'s mental health strategy to support students' wellbeing and success.
