Indigenous Education Advisory Council Parent Letter

August 23, 2017

Dear Parent/Guardian,

As a parent/guardian of a student who is of First Nation, Metis, or Inuit ancestry, I am pleased to share this information with you.

We are currently in the process of creating an Indigenous Education Advisory Council. The role of this Council is to give parents and guardians an opportunity to share input and suggestions to the Board team in areas of supporting our First Nations, Metis, and Inuit students. The Council is comprised of parents, guardians, community members, elders, and possibly representatives of community agencies who support our students (ie., Friendship Centres, health agencies, youth groups).

The Council is looking to meet three times per year. Depending on interest and feedback, we may create three ‘sub’ councils to meet the needs of all students and their families across the Board, from Hearst to Temagami.

If you are interested in participating and would like more information on this, please email Elizabeth (Lisa) Innes at the contact information below.

Meegwetch,

Elizabeth (Lisa) Innes, Indigenous System Lead
