Talent Shines at Theatre Competition

​Congratulations to the Drama students at Kirkland Lake District Composite and Timiskaming District Secondary Schools! Both schools participated in the National Theatre School Drama Festival of Ontario competition, which was recently held in Cobalt. Schools participating in the festival included: KLDCS (Kirkland Lake), TDSS (New Liskeard), and O’Gorman High School (Timmins).

 
Behind Closed Doors, the TDSS play written by Grade 11 student Angelyka Sopchyshyn was performed on April 5th at the Classic Theatre.   The play won the Outstanding Production Award in addition to an award of excellence for writing and the stage management award. The play moves on to the Northern Regional Drama Festival on April 19-21 in North Bay at West Ferris Secondary School.  
 
Our Mixed Tape,  a compilation of poems written by Shane Koyczan and collected by students in the Senior Drama Class at KLDCS, won two awards of excellence (for set design and lighting) and one award of merit for music.  This play also won the Outstanding Production Award and will advance to the Regional Festival in North Bay.  Awards are to be presented on April 21st.
