On the April 9th Professional Activity Day, staff, administration and trustees of District School Board Ontario North East welcomed guest speaker Kevin Lamoureaux. Lamoureux is the Education Lead for the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (on secondment), and also the Associate Vice-President, Indigenous Affairs at the University of Winnipeg.
Lamoureux spoke about the importance of teaching children about Truth and Reconciliation - of "being part of a solution even though you didn't create the problem". "Reconciliation is about education and awareness," said Lamoureux. "If it were not for the survivors, I don't think we would be talking about Reconciliation like we are today."
Lamoureux received a standing ovation from all who attended.
