On March 21st “The Evening of Applause” was held at O’Gorman High School. This event, which involves all four district school boards, Northern College, College Boreal, Algoma U, Hearst University and the Timmins and District Multicultural Centre, is an annual event designed to celebrate cultural differences and recognize the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
During the evening many awards were given to deserving students. The following students from District School Board Ontario North East won awards for being a “Student Who Make A Difference”:
• Julia Litt-Roy (grade 3) from Timmins Centennial Public School (unable to attend the evening)
• Lindsay Johnston (grade 6) from Bertha Shaw Public School
• Shelby Deacon (grade 12) form Roland Michener Secondary School
• Jaykob Walton (grade 12) from Timmins High and Vocational School
Emma Bellehumeur (Grade 3) from Timmins Centennial Public School won the “Celebrate Diversity” artwork contest. (Kindergarten to grade 3 section)
The grade 6 students, from Timmins Centennial Public School, performed a great presentation entitled “What is Friendship?”
