February 13, 2018

Kishay Peesim means “Great Moon”. Traditionally, during the month of February, it was a time of story telling and teaching children and young people about the cycle of life. On Wednesday, February 7th, the Ojibway and Cree Cultural Centre provided a workshop for students of the Cree class at R. Ross Beattie Senior Public School. Carmen Edwards from the Fort Albany First Nation, provided teachings about the Medicine Wheel. Elder, Dorothy York of Moose Factory, taught students how to create their own Medicine Wheel.

The Medicine Wheel provides over 200 teachings about the world and creation, and how we are all connected. Carmen shared with students about how to take care of our own Medicine Wheel and bring balance into our life through story telling.
