Policy 1.2.20 ADVOCACY

1.0 Rational

Ontario has an effective governance structure to ensure open and ongoing communication between school boards and the province, including partnership tables, regular meetings, surveys and other opportunities.

District School Board Ontario North East believes that public advocacy is important to the development of an effective public education system and can improve governance of the school system at both the provincial and school board levels. 

2.0 Definitions

Advocacy: Advocacy is the promotion of public awareness with a view to influencing decision makers and promoting changes to laws and other government policies to advance the mission of a particular organization or group of people. 

3.0 Policy 

It is the policy of District School Board Ontario North East to support and engage in communication with affiliated organizations, partners, the Ministry of Education and all levels of government to identify, discuss and find solutions to policy, financial, operational and other issues of common interest.
