The Grade 7 and 8 students in the Choose Your Own Adventure program at Roland Michener Secondary School partnered with the Golden Manor Home for the Aged on a special horticultural program.
The Golden Manor received funding from the Northeast Local Integration Network (NE LHIN) to expand programming to serve persons living with dementia.
RMSS students built raised gardens and donated them to the Golden Manor. The raised garden boxes were constructed to be wheelchair accessible, allowing greater ease of access to all residents who are interested in participating in the gardening program.
The garden boxes have been placed in the courtyards at the Golden Manor, areas which are a hub of activity for residents, families and visitors. The residents are looking forward to seeing the results of their green thumbs later this summer!
