Grade 7 students at KLDCS are Tobacco Youth Champions! During a recent activity, students in Mr. Messier and Mr. Ludgate-Brand's class were divided into groups, to come up with examples of youth-targeted tobacco advertising.
Students learned how the tobacco industry targets the needs, wishes and desires of young people in order to sell cigarettes. When young people are aware of the strategies and tactics being used against them, those strategies lose their power and influence. Students were also encouraged to sign a petition to take tobacco out of youth-rated movies. The petition will be submitted to the Ontario Film Authority.
