During the afternoon hours of Thursday, February 22nd, officials at R. Ross Beattie Senior
Public School were advised of a threat inside the school, and immediately initiated an
Timmins Police attended the school during the early morning hours of Friday, February 23,
and along with school officials, conducted an investigation which lasted most of the school
As affirmed by police, there was no immediate threat to the school at any time, and the
school remained open throughout the investigation.
As a result of the investigation, a 12-year-old female faces charges.
“The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority,” says Director of
Education, Lesleigh Dye. “Incidents of a threatening nature are taken very seriously, and
will not be tolerated in any of of our schools.”
“As our Board moves into the future, we will continue to review our policies/procedures,”
adds Board Chair, Bob Brush. “We will also conduct an in-depth review of every incident
which threatens the safety and well-being of our students and staff members.."
