Aboriginal Youth Liaison Officers
Here are the Aboriginal Youth Liaison Officers for District School Board Ontario North East:
Jamie originates from Moose Cree First Nation. Jamie is a graduate of Timmins High & Vocational School and of Humber College. Working with children and youth has been rewarding, eye-opening, challenging, exciting, emotional and most of all, healing. Jamie and her husband Doug have made their home in Timmins since 2008 and choose to raise their family here. They are parents to 2 beautiful kids, Abby and Dreyden. Their family practices their traditional beliefs and values by participating in ceremonies, singing, praying, using the traditional medicines, hunting and feasting. Jamie has worked for District School Board Ontario North since 2009 serving the students of the Timmins area.
Desmond is Cree from Fort Albany First Nation. He lived in Moosonee until age 4, moving to the community of Cochrane to allow his older brother to attend École Secondaire Cochrane High School. Desmond is a graduate of ESCHS and of Canadore College in the Human Resources program. Desmond has worked with young people most of his working career and does coaching in his spare time. Desmond identifies himself as an urban Aboriginal exploring and learning about his culture. Desmond is active in the community of Cochrane, volunteering and sitting on many different boards such as North Cochrane Addiction Services and Ininew Friendship Centre. Desmond has worked for District School Board Ontario North since 2010 serving the students in the Northern region.
Nadine is Algonquin and lives in Timiskaming First Nation in Quebec. Nadine is a graduate from Cambrian College and Durham College in programs of Advertising and Geographic Information Systems. Nadine enjoys the land, practicing her culture, hunting, fishing, and handicrafts. In the role of Aboriginal Youth Liaison Officer, Nadine enjoys sharing and celebrating her Algonquin ancestry with youth. Nadine has worked with District School Board Ontario North East since 2010.
